വേണ്ട ചേരുവകള്‍

1. മൈക്രോസോഫ്റ്റ് കീബോഡ് ലേയൌട്ട് ക്രിയേറ്റര്‍

2. വിന്‍ഡോസ് എക്സ് പി സര്‍വീസ് പാക്ക് 2 മുതല്‍ (ജനുവിന്‍ ) – (അല്ലാത്തതിലും നടക്കും..വിന്‍ഡോസ് 2000 മുതല്‍ )

3. പൊതുവെ സ്റ്റാന്‍ഡേര്‍ഡ് ആയിട്ടുള്ള ഒരു ലേയൌട്ട്  (വേണമെന്നില്ല . എന്നാലും അതാണല്ലോ കൂടുതല്‍ ഉപകാരപ്രദം)

ഇവിടെ ഞാന്‍ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നതു് സൂപ്പര്‍സോഫ്റ്റിന്റെ പേജില്‍ കണ്ട റെമിങ്ടണ്‍ ലേയൌട്ടാണു്. ചിത്രം വേണ്ടവര്‍ ഇവിടെ പോയി നോക്കുക. (സ്റ്റ മാറ്റി ക്‍ ഇട്ടു, Spl മാറ്റി നോണ്‍ജോയ്നിങ് വിരാമയും )

തുടങ്ങാം.

1. ചേരുവ രണ്ട് ഉണ്ടെങ്കില്‍ ചേരുവ ഒന്നു് സംഘടിപ്പിക്കുക.
2. പ്രോഗ്രാം ഇന്‍സ്റ്റാള്‍ ചെയ്യുക.
3. പ്രോഗ്രാം സ്റ്റാര്‍ട്ട് ചെയ്യുക.
4. File-New
5. View-Font.. Select AnjaliOldLipi or any malayalam unicode font
6. Project-Properties .. Name:MLINREMI , Description:Malayalam (Remington),Company: asyouplease, Language: Malayalam (India), Check Right Alt treated as….
7. നിങ്ങള്‍ക്കു് ആവശ്യമുള്ള കീ ക്ലിക്ക് ചെയ്യുക . വരുന്ന റ്റെക്‌സ്റ്റ് ബോക്സില്‍ കീയുടെ യുണിക്കോഡ് മുല്യം ചേര്‍ക്കുക, അല്ലെങ്കില്‍ മറ്റു് മലയാളം കീബോര്‍ഡ് ഉപയോഗിച്ചു് വേണ്ട അക്ഷരം തന്നെ ചേര്‍ക്കുക  (ഉദാ: U+200B for ZWS, U+200C for ZWNJ, U+200D for ZWJ , ക വേണമെങ്കില്‍ ക എന്നോ U+0D15 എന്നോ ചേര്‍ക്കുക)

കൂട്ടക്ഷരങ്ങള്‍ വേണമെങ്കില്‍ അവ ചേര്‍ക്കുക . ഉദാ: ക്ക കിട്ടണമെങ്കില്‍ ക ് ക (സ്പേസില്ലാതെ) എന്നോ U+0D15 U+0D4D U+0D15 (സ്പേസ് ഇടയില്‍ ) എന്നോ ചേര്‍ക്കുക. ചില്ല് ര്‍ വേണമെങ്കില്‍  ര ് zwj (U+0d30 U+0d4d U+200D) (ർ U+0d7c ആണവന്‍)

ഷിഫ്റ്റ് ചെക്ക് ചെയ്തു് ആ കീകളും നിറയ്ക്കണം.

The heading (in Arabic) is encoded using different codepoints. The different forms (isolated, medial, initial and final ) are given different codepoints . So it is possible to represent the text without any shaping engine also. The characters also join using the shaping engine, resulting in different binaries for the same text. That’s why Normalization is very important in Unicode texts. As this is the case, why can’t we have codepoints for our MalayalaM (മലയാളം) postbase va,la,ya,ra -signs, reph etc. Security issues are to be taken care at a different level. The arguments against awarding atomic codepoints for any character of visual independence is void, if we consider the Arabic codepoints.

Meera and Vista

Meera_g02 (the one released for Linux) can work with Vista in a basic manner now. See the Flickr photo for a screenshot. As the release was intended for a Linux based system, there are some spacing issues. But Malayalam rendering is perfect (I couldn’t find a nuance yet, even ചില്ലു് is working fine).

Meaning change example using ZWNJ in Malayalam

Mr Cibu had challenged in his blog to find an example in Malayalam which brings meaning change with and without using ZWNJ.
An example was posted, no reply for that yet.
We all know, normally there wont be any meaning change, because there existed the type-writer script in Malayalam in which the reader has to interpret the meaning of the word according to the context. This script was only used by the official purposes and was rejected by the mainstream public. Any move to revive the script will bring strong resistance from the language lovers.

One reason that was told for the Atomic encoding was the meaning change theory.
eg: vanyavanika
Now I bring a similar example for non-joiners (This example is as acceptable as the vanyavanika,kanvalayam,manvikshobham examples),
sad_vaaram (means good week– with non-joiner) സദ്​വാരം and sa_dvaaram (means with hole– without non joiner)സദ്വാരം . As there is no graphically independent Cil available for da, atomic encoding is not possible here, though da has a Cilling behaviour.
What is the solution here ?
A non-joining candrakkala ?
An atomic postbase va ?
Or is there a move to make the virama non-joining ?

These questions remain un-answered .
And a solution for this is not attempted.

The real solution for this and the chillus is the legalization of the current sequences. The joiners and non-joiners must become atleast second class citizens. And they must not be thrown out by any standard applications. There is no problem in IDN also with the existing sequences, as the joiners are mapped to null string. There wont be any compatibility issues and security threats.

But some persons told me that we have to use sat(സത്) instead of sad(സദ്).I can’t agree to it. We use sad_vaartha, sad_vichaaram, sambad_vyavasttha etc.
Even if that is the case(sat is to be used), I shall bring another example:
sat_varam (good blessing, nalla varam) and satvaram (speedy) the
സത്​വരം , സത്വരം pair.
I think if we dig it more , we may find more pairs. Just we have to look into the postbase , prebase, belowbase conjuncts. If a non-expert like me can find these, experts can find more.
But there is no point in finding these pairs. If we preserve the (non)joiners, the issue never arise.
So one reason for atomic chillu encoding is void .

And if we look into all the stated available reasons for atomic chillus one by one, all of these are, according to me, simply excuses, not reasons.

[The real reason is "The Govt of India requested it. And the Govts of Kerala supported it". Please tell us that openly. There was no need of these "mock" sessions.]

The basic argument that Cils are independent is void, because a glyph of Cil-ya is not in use. The very reference used to “prove” the independent nature of Cils, presents the Cilling property of YA using an example kaay_kaRikaL(കായ്​കറികള്‍).

As there is no independent glyph for Cil-Y, atomic encoding is not possible

Let’s make the applications not remove/strip the joiners by suitable amendment in the standard. This is a solution and this is the solution.
If the vendors need their applications compliant to the standard, they will make necessary changes. There are open source solutions already working with the preserved joiners. These vendors also can follow the suit.

Unicode is not new, and why we have to convert the data. Unicode Stability Policy assures us backward compatibility.

What if we don’t convert ? We were assured about the data integrity. That’s why we switched from Ascii to Unicode. If we were to use a converter every now and then, why can’t we stay in  ASCII/ISCII etc

Do we have to wait till the Govt sites accept Unicode to start blogging/wiki-ing ?

How to read “selected” comment feeds

WordPress blogs and the new blogger blogs (with page elements) provides comment feeds along with the post feeds. So if we wish to read the comments of any blogs using our feed reader, we just need to subscribe to those feeds only.

The advantage of this method is that we won’t be lost in the flood of comments from various “unknown” and evergrowing list of blogs.

The disadvantage of this method from the present method is that we might not be able to know about the new discussions and rumors in the blogs.

You can use Google Reader,  Bloglines, Thunderbird etc as the feed reader.

ഈ സംശയത്തിനാധാരം ഞാന്‍ ഒരാള്‍ക്കയച്ച ഈമെയില്‍ അദ്ദേഹം പബ്ലിഷ് ചെയ്തതാണു്. അതും അയച്ചയാളുടെ പേരില്ലാതെ. അദ്ദേഹം എന്റെ അപേക്ഷ പരിഗണിച്ചു് അതു് മായ്​ച്ചു കളഞ്ഞു. നന്ദി. ഒരു ബ്ലോഗറായ ഞാന്‍ ഒരു മെയിലയക്കുമ്പോള്‍ അതു് പ്രസിദ്ധീകരണയോഗ്യമല്ലാത്തതു് കൊണ്ടായിരിക്കും. അല്ലെങ്കില്‍ എനിക്കങ്ങു് ബ്ലോഗിയാല്‍ പോരേ !
